The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion-- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.
Prostitution in the Philippines is illegal but widely prevalent. There are estimated to be 800,000 men, women and child prostitutes in the Philippines. The City of Olongapo, once a very flourishing US Naval Base was also home to the biggest prostitution industry in the Philippines, and in the 1980s was dubbed "Sin City" due to the high number of entertainment clubs and rampant prostitution. Today, the streets are no longer as vibrant since the last US Naval fleet left in 1991 - however tourists have 'filled the space' as the new clientele.
As part of YWAM, our vision is to know God and make God known. Our main focus is girls working in the bars and on the streets in the sex tourism industry. We seek to meet people where they are at, so we go to the bars and the streets to build relationships with the girls and aim to meet with them outside of the bars, sometimes doing Bible studies with them. We beleive that we are called to take God's light into the bars and streets where there is a lot of darkness. We have a heart to show these girls how much they are worth and valued and to help them practically.
As well as bar ministry, we also do tribal ministry, prison ministry, prayer walks and park evangelism. We are always looking for opportunities to share the gospel with people. Our focus is in Olongapo, Angeles and Pasay but sometimes we also do outreach in other places in the Philippines. We seek to partner with other ministries to make sure that the gospel is reaching those working in the sex tourism industry wherever they are.
